Hump Day- September 13, 2017

What is hump day? It’s Wednesday. The hump to your work week. 2 days down and 2 days to go. On hump days I will be sharing articles, videos, or other form of entertainment. It will include links to other posts I have liked throughout the week. Some are parenting articles, others are personal finance ones, and occasionally there will be a random funny article. Enjoy!

On this date

Michelangelo began working on his sculpture of David back in 1503.  I have yet to see this in person, but it looks pretty accurate to me as a doc.

Hump Day articles

Lots of great articles this week! Very good week on the inter web…so here are some of the articles I have enjoyed.

Joshua Becker discussed why “Does it Sparking Joy?” is the wrong decluttering question and I can’t agree more. I am more of the mind that most things should not spark joy. People and experiences should, not things. But to each their own.

I personally am a religion major and feel that philosophy majors are my cousins…or at least a close relative. So when My Strategic Dollar had a guest post on 5 Life Lessons A Philosophy Degree Taught Me I listen eagerly. Of these, not needing much to be happy is the one I most agree with…Josh Becker would agree.

There was a nice New York Times piece by Emily Esfahani Smith about the fact that You’ll never be famous- and thats o.k. Take a read, but for me a mundane life is an enjoyable life. No need to Keep up with the Kardashians.

Now for some personal finance pieces.

Think Save Retire is right in poignant out that you don’t need any more financial advice. For all of us who have read hundreds and hundreds of blog posts (or just tens) are far ahead of the others and likely know what we need to find financial freedom.

Still, if you want more advice then consider Wall Street Physicians advice that young investors should not hope for a bear market. I am happier to ride out the positive gains year after year, but if at some time a recession hits, I am buying some stocks and properties.

In fact if there is a crash you might want to know how to sleep soundly through it. Well JL Collins set forth a new idea with a guest post, the Wasting Asset Retirement Model (WARM). It works, but is rarely looked positively upon by the FIRE community. They prefer to be red hot.

So there you have it. This weeks great posts. Enjoy!

Although I am not much of a museum person, I highly recommend seeing David in person. It’s just one of those things that is worth seeing in my book.

I am not much of a museum person either, but there are some things like David or the Mona Lisa that seem worth the effort to see in person.

Hold up, did you really major in religion? If so, that’s awesome! I really enjoyed the “5 Life Lessons A Philosophy Degree Taught Me” post. I’ll be adding that website to the list of blogs I visit.

Glad I could introduce you to a new site and yes, I was a religion major. It was a pretty sweet gig and makes me miss the days of reading books and writing essays…ah the good old days. Now it is patients, satisfaction scores, and other metrics.
