What is hump day? It’s Wednesday. The hump to your work week. 2 days down and 2 days to go. On hump days I will be sharing articles, videos, or other form of entertainment. It will include links to other posts I have liked throughout the week. Some are parenting articles, others are personal finance ones, and occasionally there will be a random funny article. Enjoy!
On this Hump Day December 13th
On this date in 1916 an avalanche killed 300 Austrian troops that were fighting the Italians in World War 1. 200,000 tons of snow, rock and ice plunged down the mountain directly onto the barracks. By the end of December, over 9,000 troops were killed by numerous other avalanches. All those losses in the matter of half a month from mother nature.
The day was coined White Friday, the day of the most deaths caused by snow in an avalanche in history. Ah what we humans do to each other…and to what gain.
Hump day articles
I really enjoyed this article by ESI Money: If you’ve won the game, stop playing. Couldn’t agree more, unless you really love the game. As for me, I love certain games but not the investing game for the sake of investing.
The Land of Milk and Money dropped some Star Wars knowledge (who is going to see the movie Friday?) on an awesome article that deserves a Rockstar Finance award called 9 Mind Tricks from Star Wars to Give your Finances a New Hope… See what they did there. It is a fantastic read so please go check it out. As for me, I love Star Wars but will wait a few weeks for the rush to die down before checking it out.
This the season…and Joshua Becker over at Becoming Minimalist lays down the truth about gift purchasing. So before you buy your kids a bunch of toys for Christmas, read this. It is such good advice that I forwarded this article to my wife…I do not forward a lot of articles her way.
So there you have it, another work week gone by. Christmas fast approaches and I hope that you have finished whatever shopping you may need to do. For us, it will be spent with me in the hospital and then coming home to my family and hopefully whichever friends are hanging around for the weekend.
