Hump Day- May 31, 2017
What is hump day? It’s Wednesday. The hump to your work week. 2 days down and 2 days to go. On hump days I will be sharing articles, videos, or other form of entertainment. It will include links to other posts I have liked throughout the week. Some are parenting articles, others are personal finance ones, and occasionally there will be a random funny article. Enjoy!
On this date
In 1879 Madison Square Garden (MSG) opens in New York (Manhattan specifically). Surprisingly to me, this was named after Jams Madison, the 4th president of the United States. The current building is actually the 4th one. The first two MSGs were located on Madison Square. It has housed hockey (Rangers) and basketball (The Knicks) along with shows, circuses, and anything else needing a huge arena.
The current Garden opened in 1968 and has housed Madonna, U2, Elton John and many other performers. There have been Democratic and Republican National Conventions there. I have never seen a show there, but have been by it many times.
Hump day articles!
And now for the articles that I have enjoyed over the last week.
First off is the White Coat Investor. He discusses the ability we all have to put ourselves in a position to get lucky. Basically, work hard and allow yourself to accept the luck life presents. WCI has definitely been lucky, but he has also worked hard and prepared. Luck = Preparation + Opportunity! So go out their and make some luck.
ESI Money discusses how we should Stop Making Money Excuses. He discusses how most people won’t help themselves when it comes to money. I see this same trait in people in medicine. Someone has a heart attack but still won’t stop smoking. In finances, people will be in debt, but still purchase an RV or boat. Same issue with a different problem. There was actually another ESI Money article I liked this week too. It was the skills that can grow your career and earnings. Check it out if you have the time. There are some great recommendations.
Mad Money Monster discusses if educated professionals are cheating society by retiring early. They discuss if their is a moral obligation for educated professionals to keep working. It is an interesting take and one I have discussed for doctors here.
Montana Money Adventures discusses the difference between being Cheap, Spendthrift, or Frugal. I have always discussed cheap and frugalness, but never thought much of the spendthrifts. On reading the article I can see that I have moved from spendthrift to frugal. Luckily I am not cheap!
May was a good month. I completed my low spending month which opened my eyes to exactly where we are spending some of our money. Man owning a home is expensive and I sure do like good food.
Have you considered trying to decrease your spending. It is harder than it sounds. I challenge each of you to do so this week and get back to me with how it goes. Have a great day!

Thanks for posting your progress on the low spending month! Most bloggers show their spending on a monthly basis, but it was really neat to see how you were performing week by week. I’m glad you learned more about yourself over the course of the challenge. 🙂
Thanks for following. It is interesting to do it week to week. We see the same mistakes even though we are tracking the stats!
