Hump Day – June 21, 2017

What is hump day? It’s Wednesday. The hump to your work week. 2 days down and 2 days to go. On hump days I will be sharing articles, videos, or other form of entertainment. It will include links to other posts I have liked throughout the week. Some are parenting articles, others are personal finance ones, and occasionally there will be a random funny article. Enjoy!

Wednesday June 21st, 2017

Today is the summer solstice, the official celestial start to summer (as opposed to Memorial Day, which is the official societal start to summer).

On this day

In 1788 the United States Constitution comes into effect after New Hampshire becomes the 9th state to ratify it. The initial constitution had 13 articles that lay out the formation of our government. It describes what the legislative, executive, and judicial branches are and how they are supposed to function. It starts out with “We the People” and this statement affirms that the government is here to serve it’s citizens and not the other way around. The Constitution is the bedrock of our laws and remains a very important document to this day.

Hump day posts

Mrs. Montana published a great post today about Buying a Lifestyle. She is enjoying her life and spending a few weeks on the Seattle coast. Seems like a great way to spend life. Enjoying your family and traveling when and where you want. No 9 to 5 to keep you chained to your desk.

Similarly, at LifeZemplified a discussion of how Financial Freedom Tomorrow Begins with your Choices Today.

Physician on Fire dropped some knowledge on us, discussing Social Security and Early Retirement. He discusses how long you need to work and what the benefits are to working longer (there really are not many after a certain point). He also goes through some strange orthopedic references (I am more of a blood and guts kind of guy), but hey it gets the point across. Check it out as it is quite an informative article.

Think Save Retire goes through a discussion of what Financial independence for the non-early retiree means and why it is important. You don’t have to hate your job to want to consider financial independence. It just gives you more choices and choices are good.

The Wall Street Physician discusses why early saving is the best saving in To Win The Savings Race, Don’t Pace Yourself. Compound interest is a might beast and the sooner you put it to work the better off you will be. Waiting to invest until you are older is a bad idea.

Finally, Retire by 40 discusses my biggest hero- The Arnold in Read this before buying your first home. He was smart to downsize and wishes he had purchased more rental properties…don’t we all.

There you go. Some great posts from the week.

Thanks for the shout out! We are having a great time. It’s awesome being able to leave on a whim because it’s what we need right now. An old coworker tried to recruit him just a few days before we left, and it was really easy to say no. Having impromptu 2 week trips is hard to give up. 😉

That must be a good feeling to be able to say no. Not many people have that privilege. To me the fact that you guys can do it with all of the kids too! Amazing.

Happy summer solstice and Hump Day to all! I’m trying to think of all the activities I can get done today with slightly more sunshine. Ahhh.

      Ideas:
      1) Sun tan a little longer.
      2) Dry your close a little later.
      3) Convert your house to solar and get a few more watts of energy.
      4) Sun dry some tomatoes (is that how they get sun dried tomatoes?)
      5) Go to a happy hour at 7 pm instead of 5…..

Thanks for checking out the post!

Thanks for the share! I hope you enjoy this day with the most sunlight, although I hear it is quite hot in California right now.

It’s nice in the shade…I just would not want to be stuck out working directly in the sun. Honestly, I will take the heat over the cold any day. Glad to include you and your article madam wish I had been saving since I was 18.
