Hump Day- August 30, 2017
What is hump day? It’s Wednesday. The hump to your work week. 2 days down and 2 days to go. On hump days I will be sharing articles, videos, or other form of entertainment. It will include links to other posts I have liked throughout the week. Some are parenting articles, others are personal finance ones, and occasionally there will be a random funny article. Enjoy!
On this day
On this day in 1836, the city of Houston was founded. It has since grown to the 4th largest city in the US and this past weekend was devastated by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.
Let us all think of all of the people there dealing with the flooding.
This weeks articles
I am out of town this week at a conference. Continuing medical education, an important part of the doctoring process. It has been a nice week in Southern California visiting friends, the beach, and sitting in traffic. Here is some continuing life education for you guys.
Keep thrifty discusses how you can take back your sanity by switching from push to pull. I made some of these changes a few months back and it really does lead to a better daily life.
Mr. 1500 reviews the paradox of money. I have always thought that money does not bring happiness, but it sure makes things easier.
Sam at Financial Samurai brings up a good point about Frugality. Stop Frugality from leading to Lifestyle Deflation. While I do not frequently deflate my life, trying to reach financial independence definitely leads to some frugal choices like driving our current cars instead of upgrading.
ESI Money had a great post this week about ignoring money critics. There are a lot of nay sayers out there and you should just ignore them. They don’t lead to your personal happiness so who cares what they say. Plus most of them are living paycheck to paycheck.
I really dug reading this post by Finding happiness this week. Survival is for suckers- its time to thrive! I could not agree more. Our mental state bleeds into the rest of our lives and actions. So if you think you are barely surviving, then that is how you will act. Better to appreciate what you got and figure out how to thrive!
Get out there!
So get out there and enjoy the rest of your week. Days go by and we grow older. Better to find a way to enjoy each single day.
Thanks for sharing these articles! I need to be better at keeping up with Financial Samurai; he always has good stuff. The Houston flooding has been horrible, but please everyone, think of the coastal Texas towns that were utterly demolished by Harvey’s landfall. Rockport and the Aransas areas have been decimated and desperately need support as well.
Very very true about keeping in mind the coastal towns. I lived in New Orleans and Lake Charles and saw how bad those little towns can get hit. Lake Charles was particularly hit hard too during this latest storms. I suspect recovery on all fronts is going to be hard.
